FAILURE DETECTION IN CONTROL SYSTEMS

The RT 580 facilitates hands-on learning in the control of three controlled variables that are common in process engineering. A circuit is provided with a collection tank, a pump and a graduated tank to control level and flow. A pneumatic control valve is used as the actuator. There is a valve at the outlet of the tank to generate a disturbance variable in the level control. Cascade control is possible so the level in the tank is controlled through the flow rate. Two circuits are used in temperature control. A cooling system cools the water in the collection tank. A pump circulates water through a heat exchanger (cooling circuit). A heater heats the water in the graduated tank. Another pump also circulates the hot water through the heat exchanger. The water in the cooling circuit is heated in the heat exchanger. The controlled variable is the temperature of the water in the cooling circuit after heating in the heat exchanger.
