CHANGE OF STATE OF GASES

The gas laws belong to the fundamentals of thermodynamics and are covered in each thermodynamics course. The WL 102 experimental unit allows two state changes to be experimentally studied: the isothermal state change, also known as the Boyle-Mariotte law, and the isochoric state change, which occurs at constant volume. Transparent tanks allow you to observe the change of state. Air is used as the test gas. In the first tank, located on the left, the hermetically sealed volume of air is reduced or increased using a compressor and hydraulic oil. This results in an isothermal change of state. The compressor can also function as a vacuum pump. If the changes occur slowly, the change of state takes place at a nearly constant temperature. In the second tank, located to the right, the temperature of the test gas is increased by a controlled electrical heater and the resulting pressure increase is measured. The closed gas volume remains constant. Temperatures, pressures and volumes are measured electronically, displayed digitally and transferred to a PC for processing.
